One winter morning in Seoul. You heard people running from the corridor of your guesthouse. What was the commotion about? Then your phone beeped. You opened your viber and suddenly a photo appeared. (No you’re not in the movie One Missed Call.) It was a photo of two guys in their sandos and shorts outside the freezing weather. Hahaha. Crazy guys. 😀
This day was dedicated to the Korean drama Winter Sonata because we visited one of its famous locations – Nami Island. To tell you the truth, this was the day that Mel and I really thought most about. May photoshoot at theme so dapat maganda ang suot. Haha. My roommates and I were dressing up when we noticed that our clothes all looked the same. Matchy-matchy. Black coats with red scarves. Yung totoo, pinag-usapan ba natin to? 😛 When we all gathered downstairs they also noticed that we looked like students going to school in our uniforms – Hogwarts classmates! 🙂
We walked again to the Hyehwa station. This time we took the train to Insa-dong where the bus going to Nami was waiting. Before heading to the meeting place, some of us ordered breakfast at Mcdonalds. Mahaba ang byahe so kain muna. 🙂 From Insa-dong, we took the bus going to Nami Island.
After an hour or so of bus travel, we reached the port going to Nami Island. There were many people already waiting for the ferry to take us to the land Jun-Sang and Yoo-Jin. As we were walking towards the waiting area, we felt that it was slowly getting colder. Then the wind blew. I had chills. Grabe! Tagos hanggang buto yung lamig. Hindi kinaya ng coat at warmer. Super lamig! Kahit yata yakapsule hindi uubra dun. Kaya tabi-tabi muna for some body heat. At syempre, photo op ulit. Hehe. The weather was so cold that everyone of us were looking-forward to the heater of the ferry.
It only took us a few minutes to reach Naminara Island – more commonly known as Nami. Tikoy hurriedly asked us to go to a nice location where we will have our first photoshoot. Many visitors were starting to arrive so we took the opportunity while the place was still ours.
While walking, we saw a squirrel going down the tree. We were all curious so we stopped to take pictures. Then the squirrel started going towards Stef. Everywhere she placed her boots, the squirrel would follow. It must have thought that the boots were tree branches. Pati squirrel nabibighani.
While heading to another location, we passed by a line of trees with light decorations. It was a nice spot to take pictures. We all stopped and had a quick pictorial. Tyx instructed us to pose with the dried leaves. Hawak muna. Then hagis. It took us some time to get it right especially the falling leaves effect. Then people started reacting. May mabaho. Everyone laughed. It must have been the waste of the animals inhabiting the island. Pero seryoso, mabaho talaga. Sumusunod at tumatambay ang amoy. Feeling close.
Since we were still in the area, we took the chance to take personal photos. Our matching outfits were really noticeable so I asked Mel and Mark to have a group photo. Cute! Parang kaming classmates – well that’s true though I met Mel in elementary and high school and Mark when I was in college. We also took a group shot of Gayle, Shie and Kath. Parang powerpuff girls lang. 🙂
Restroom break ulit! While the rest where answering the call of nature, we noticed the huge stone statue that looked like a monster. It was really interesting that we gave our best to take a group photo. Siksik dun sa mga ngipin at pangil. We were desperate to have a complete photo so Stef set up the timer of her camera. Kaso di pala kaya ng 3 seconds tumakbo 😛 . We were all laughing when we saw the finished product of our first try. Ang ganda ng likod mo Stef. Haha. On our second try, Phoebe was the one who set up the timer. Ayun! Saktong-sakto lang. We couldn’t hide our smiles from the excitement. Lahat kami napapacheer sa pagtakbo ni Phoebe.
It was already close to lunchtime when we finished. Then Mark suddenly asked when we’re eating. Tikoy asked the rest of us and everyone agreed that we were not yet hungry. Except for Mark. Since it was 1 vs 8, Mark had no choice but to follow us and continue with the photoshoot.
We stopped by another interesting structure. This time, there were ‘people’ made of bamboos. Each of us took a partner and then posed again. It looked like there were many of us in the photos. Thanks Tyx and Phoebe for the directions! Hahaha. It was really fun-ny.
We reached the end of the road and saw a much quieter place to well, have another photoshoot. Haha. But I enjoyed it. Ang daming moments!
We were taking a group photo when a family approached us and offered to take a complete group shot. Kamsahamnnida!
I cannot really remember how many times we stopped to take pictures. So ayun, when Tyx and Phoebe were about to take pictures, dalawang camera ang wala nang memory. Photoshoot pa more! 😛
We all walked towards the lake and were all in awe. Ang ganda. Ang sarap magmoment. The peaceful surrounding has a calming effect to the soul.
Finally, it was time for lunch. We settled in a nearby restaurant selling ramen, udon and dumplings. We never thought that one order of dumplings meant 10 pieces. Wow! Ang dami naming inorder. In the end, we were not able to consume our food.
Once we were done eating we went out to have coffee. Then we saw the frozen lake. Melvin was curious whether the lake was really frozen and decided to try putting on his weight on the ice. 😀
We went to the other part of the island to look for other interesting places. We saw these shelter made of straws. We wanted to try if it was really warm inside and we were not disappointed. Pwedeng tumambay!
Since there were no more place to visit, it was time for us to ride bikes. Pangarap ko talagang mag bike sa Korea. Oo, dapat sa Korea. Yung bike na may basket sa harap. Salamat TF and friends for helping me make that possible. I love you all! 🙂
After renting our bikes, we started following the bike trail. We were all doing okay except for Melvin. His bike was big for him. He was having a hard time controlling it. Tsk tsk.
We were traversing the path going to the river when we encountered a slope. Good thing Shie was able to stop him or else sa ilog ka pupulutin.
After that funny moment, we continued touring the island. Shie, Kath and I were leading when we noticed that Mel and Mark were missing. While Shie and I were waiting, naisip namin, nagmomoment yung dalawa. Bromance. Hahaha. Later on, I found out that Mark asked Mel to take a photo of him while riding the bike. 😀
We used up the rest of our 30 minutes before returning the bicycles. WE went back to the meeting place at the port then finally head back to the other side.
While Mel, Mark, Kath, Shie and I roam around Nami Island on bikes, Stef, Gayle, Phoebe and Tyx had another series of photoshoots. Baka madiscover.
We went back early and our bus was still closed. We saw an establishment nearby and looked for a bathroom. Ang cute ng banyo. Witty! While waiting, I bought some bookmark souvenirs from a nearby shop while Mel and Mark did their second dare which was to eat ice cream. And I tried it too. Parang wala nalang yung ice cream. Parang kumakain ka nalang ng cream. Wala na ung ice. Haha.
Like what Tikoy said, the bus left on time. We were all tired and began sleeping the moment the bus moved. Since our dear roommate was not good in riding buses, we offered him bonamine. Magshoshopping pa kami so bawal magkasakit. Bonamine at Biogesic pa more!
We were dropped off at the bus stop in Insa-dong. We decided to go separate ways – Tyx and Phoebe went to a fortune teller while the rest of us walked around Insa-dong and Myeongdong to look for souvenirs. It was a tiring day – from all the walking and shopping and posing in front of the camera. Ang hirap palang maging artista. 😀
Once again, thank you very much TF friends for the wonderful memories and for helping me cross out another item on my bucket list. This day will forever stay in my heart. Just like the popular line from Winter Sonata: “All the time in the world can’t erase my memories. A person you bury in your heart, you can never forget.” I love you all. 🙂

We would like to thank Ed Sheeran for the inspiration. 🙂
