Passport Renewal at DFA SM Megamall

* This post is intended as the second part of my Passport Application post.

Last Wednesday, I accompanied my Mom on her passport renewal. I scheduled her appointment one month before the application date. I chose the earliest time which is 10:00am.

Come her appointment day, the traffic was terrible so we arrived at the DFA SM Megamall at 10:20am. Many people were already inside the Processing Section so we had to wait for her number to be called. Just like in my previous post, present your Appointment and Application Forms before entering the Processing Section for validation. Then get your number at the Queuing Machine. Make sure to select the correct button – whether you’re there for New Application, Renewal, or Lost Passport.

We waited for 30 minutes before my Mom’s number was called. While waiting, there was a guy (who looked like a game show master) who was giving instructions and tips to everyone especially with the requirements. He already instructed my Mom to sign the Application form before going to the processing window.

My Mom’s first passport was the old brown one that was issued in 1991.

Requirements collected by the DFA Officer:

1. Original NBI Clearance

2. Original NSO Marriage Contract (We changed her passport from Single to Married)

3. Photocopy of old passport (Page 1,2,3,4 and last page)

We also showed the original brown passport. Then the staff punched the first page before returning it to us. Yes, do not forget to get your expired passport especially if it has visas.

After checking all the requirements, we were directed to the Payment Section where my Mom paid Php950.00 for the normal processing.

Then we proceeded directly to the Encoding Section where my Mom’s biometrics were taken – photo, signature, and finger print. It only took us five minutes in the Payment section and five minutes in the Encoding Section.

Viola! We were done processing my Mom’s passport renewal in just 45 minutes.

It really pays when you have all the requirements photocopied and prepared.

OVERHEARD (while waiting for our turn):

1. If you are a new graduate or do not have work yet, bring your college ID and transcript of records (original and photocopy). Those are valid requirements. For college students currently enrolled, aside from your ID, you may also bring your School Registration form (original and photocopy).

2. Postal ID is not acceptable.

3. In case you do not have NSO birth certificate/marriage contract yet (which are the most important requirements), there’s an NSO processing section near the DFA – same day processing.

4. For private employees, aside from your company ID, bring your SSS E1-form (original and photocopy).

5. NBI clearance is one of the most dependable requirements aside from the NSO birth certificate. So if you do not have any valid ID yet, get one before your DFA appointment.

6. Always bring the original and photocopy of your requirements. It will lessen you processing time and expenses (since photocopying inside the DFA is a little expensive).

  2. called 570 3231 and a certain celine answered the phone. i raised my concern and she said she will return my call after 1 hour. she did not. i kept on calling the two numbers listed in your site but nobody cares to answer the phone.
i am supposed to claim my renewed passport on june 27, 2014 so i want to know if it is ready by now and if it is, can i pick it up june 28, 2014 instead?
i hope they can reply to this message/comment if they don’t have the time to answer their phones.
    thank you.

    • Hi Odette. You can pick up your passport anytime starting June 27. The only time the releasing of passports is delayed is when one of their machines is not in order. If there was no advise during your application, I think you can get the passport starting June 27.

  3. Hi, magpapa passport po sana ako sa friday, july 25, 2014 kaso po di ako nakapagpa appointment, pwede po ba kahit hindi nagpa appointment? Makikisabay lang po kc ako sa tita ko. pls reply salamat

    • Hi Joanne,

I think you need to have an appointment para maprocess nila ang passport mo. The appointment forms will contain all the details they will need to process your passport kaya important siya. Based from experience, they will only allow you inside the DFA office kapag pinakita mo yung appointment schedule mo.

      • im traveling on 11th of september and i applied for passport renewal last 25th of august, upon evaluation they inform me that i need to follow up my application coz they might have delay, supposed to be on august 4 until 10 the releasing so im trying to call them to confirm if its ready so i can pick it up, but even i tried to call them for hundred times they are not picking up my call… im living in caloocan and mega mall is quite far from my place..

      • Hi Nowie. Unfortunately delays really happen especially if there are malfunctioning machines. I cannot guarantee you also that there will be people to answer you call. I think going to their office is your best option. They also informed me before that there might be delays but I got the passport on time. This is why they encourage people to renew or apply for the passport early.

  8. guys help here please. I just got here from the u.s cuz my sons petition will expire oct.18 and we still have a things to be done. I went to get my son’s passport on sept.17 and they said I can get it in 7 business day it.s been almost 3 weeks 10th businessdays today and I still don’t have his passport. Any advice on who to call bec.this is really serious and urgent. I tried calling the megamall branch and emailed the dfa and I cant get any helpful response from them. I won’t be able to extend his petition and if I can’t get him now we have to wait for another 2 years and that is just heart breaking . any respond will be greatly appreciated.

    • Hi Des,

I am very sorry to hear your situation. Anyway, may I know what option you chose in claiming the passport?

Normally, DFA would give you an notice if they have a problem with their printing machines and they would advise you of the turnaround time. It is really difficult to talk to them via phone or email. I suggest you go directly to their office and inquire about the passport.

      Thanks,
      Shiela

      • Hi Sheila thank you for the reply. I chose to pick it up. I didn’t received any noticed or anything from them they just said it’s not available yet which is pretty odd. Im starting to freak out and doing some research on what I can do and who to contact. I will give them til this Friday and I would go there directly. The thing is I did go there twice and they said the same thing to text or email before I go.😦 I feel like a ticking bomb and I’m scared that I have to go back in the u.s without my son😦

        I really appreciate your advice.

  9. Mam please advise me what to do. I renewed my passport today in DFA Megamall. I got informed na may delay sa releasing ng passport. Ang binigay nila na schedule ng releasing will be on Oct. 20 – 27. Flight ko na po ng October 21. Thank you.

    • Hi! Unfortunately I also do not know what to do with the case. That’s why they usually advise people to renew their passports way ahead of time due to some problems probably with their machine printing system. Please visit DFA Megamall on Oct 20 to confirm or I hope you requested to expedite your passport renew. If you can request now, please do so. Thanks.

    • Hi Jhayar,

Yes pwede na. Better nga talaga if earlier if you have scheduled travel. As per immigration rules, you are only allowed to travel if your passport is not expiring within the next six months.

  11. Hi nakalimutan ko po kasi kung kelan ang appointment ko sa megamall ngayong November Im not sure within kung anong araw sa 2nd week basta ang natatandaan ko is 4pm appointment ko, Pls help me identify kung ano po yung exact date. Thanks!
