Passport Renewal at DFA SM Megamall (Update)

Last January 2015, I had my passport renewal at the DFA in SM Megamall. Unlike the last time that I experienced renewal for my Mom, this time the passport I renewed was issued in 2010 –  the most recent passport type that DFA is issuing. So I thought that a lot of you are interested in knowing the requirements. So here you go!

Before going to DFA, make sure that you have a scheduled appointment. They have a policy of no appointment no entry. You may select your desired appointment date using this site. Make sure that you have complete requirements before going to your appointment date.

Here are the requirements:

  • Personal appearance
  • Confirmed appointment  (sent through your email)
  • Duly accomplished application form (sent through your email)
  • No need to submit a passport size photo
  • Most recent expiring or expired passport
  • 2 Valid picture IDs and supporting documents to prove identity (original and photocopy)

As for the picture IDs, I brought my UMID (Unified Multipurpose ID) and company ID. Other valid IDs are your SSS ID, Driver’s License, School ID and Professional License. You may visit this site for the list of other valid IDs.

Passport Renewal at DFA SM Megamall

* This post is intended as the second part of my Passport Application post.

Last Wednesday, I accompanied my Mom on her passport renewal. I scheduled her appointment one month before the application date. I chose the earliest time which is 10:00am.

Come her appointment day, the traffic was terrible so we arrived at the DFA SM Megamall at 10:20am. Many people were already inside the Processing Section so we had to wait for her number to be called. Just like in my previous post, present your Appointment and Application Forms before entering the Processing Section for validation. Then get your number at the Queuing Machine. Make sure to select the correct button – whether you’re there for New Application, Renewal, or Lost Passport.

We waited for 30 minutes before my Mom’s number was called. While waiting, there was a guy (who looked like a game show master) who was giving instructions and tips to everyone especially with the requirements. He already instructed my Mom to sign the Application form before going to the processing window.

My Mom’s first passport was the old brown one that was issued in 1991.

Requirements collected by the DFA Officer:

1. Original NBI Clearance

2. Original NSO Marriage Contract (We changed her passport from Single to Married)

3. Photocopy of old passport (Page 1,2,3,4 and last page)

We also showed the original brown passport. Then the staff punched the first page before returning it to us. Yes, do not forget to get your expired passport especially if it has visas.

Passport Application at DFA SM Megamall

*Please refer to my new post for the Passport Renewal info.

Some time this month, I accompanied my Dad and Brother for their New Passport Application. We arrived at the Building C of SM Megamall (bus stop) at 9am, an hour earlier from our schedule. DFA SM Megamall’s schedule is from 10:00am-4:00pm. I scheduled their appointment one month before the appearance day. It was a good thing that I scheduled earlier because as of now, upon checking the DFA SM Megamall appointment site, the earliest you can schedule is first week of July. Whew! I really wanted to finish the application before the school year starts.

I was surprised that many people were already there. Maybe about 15 people in line. Then more people kept on coming. We were only allowed to go to the office which is located at the 7th floor at 10am. Luckily, we were among the first few people who were there.

Tip: If you came in late and there’s a long queue waiting at the elevator, go inside the mall and proceed to the 5th floor of building A. From there, you can use the stairs going to the DFA office. No need to wait for the elevator and the queue.

Make sure to bring the appointment checklist of your application. It is where you will find your appointment date and time. We presented our appointment to the guard at the door then he directed us to the “Attendance Section”, where they are scanning the application forms to confirm the schedule. The person in-charge will get the appointment form and return the application. Then proceed directly to the queuing machine to get your number. Make sure to select the appropriate button (I think I remember seeing New Passport and Renewal. There are 2 more buttons but I forgot what they are. ;)).
